FAPCO Hydro contributes to the construction of the “Manuel Carlos Piar” Hydroelectric Plant. The project envisions the installation of 2,160 MW to produce an average annual energy of 12,100 GWh. For this, 10 generating units are planned, of 216 MW each. The plant has a spillway-type structure equipped with 9 radial gates with a capacity of 27,000 m3 / s.
FAPCO Hydro assembled and installed the spillway radial gates, gate guides inserts and the sealing frames for the radial gate maintenance gates.
The radial gates are 15.24 meters wide by 22.15 meters high and weight 151 tons each. Each gate is capable of withstanding a force equivalent to 2,607,466 kg. The gate sealing frames were installed, aligned, and embedded in the concrete walls. Due to their weight and dimensions, the gates were moved in sections, placed inside each spillway channel, aligned, joined together with welding, including the sections, arms and trunnions.
FAPCO Hydro installs the hydraulic cylinders and the hydraulic systems to drive them (pipe lines and hydraulic power units).
For the final finish, a special paint coating was applied for surfaces exposed to water. This is to prevent them from corroding.
FAPCO Hydro tested and delivered the fully operational Spillway Gate System to the customer.
FAPCO Hydro carried out all the work with its specialists in order to meet the demanding criteria of precision, quality, time and safety.
FAPCO Hydro took up the challenge and fulfilled the contractual commitment to deliver the operative gates in the expected time, providing experience and reliability in the construction of the “Manuel Carlos Piar” hydroelectric complex.
