Simón Bolívar Hydroelectric Plant: Modernization Project - Automation of Electric Generation Units. Guri, Venezuela.

FAPCO Hydro participates in the automation project that is part of the modernization and updating of the electric generation units at the Simón Bolívar Hydroelectric Complex in Guri. This process contemplates the renewal of the distributed control systems by a state-of-the-art, flexible and scalable system, which allows the plant operators to monitor, automatically control and protect equipment and facilities to maximize the productivity of the plant.

The project includes the dismantling, disassembling of old equipment and wiring, and the installation of new sensors, instruments, actuators, wiring, boards, data networks, control systems, and operating consoles. The distributed control system covers the intake gates, electric power generation units, auxiliaries, transformers and distribution yard.

FAPCO Hydro performs part of the procurement of materials and equipment, dismantling of obsolete equipment and cabling, the installation of new cabling, networks and equipment for its integration into the automatic control system, interconnection of the entire system, configuration of the monitoring logic and control. Unit tests are made of each component of the system and integration tests to guarantee the operation of the system.

This work is performed in parallel to the overhauling of the power generation units.
